Argentinian Facundo Díaz Acosta triumphed 2-0 over Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the final of the Sevilla Tennis Cup, held at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. Mayor José Luis Sanz presented him with the trophy for the 63rd edition.
The Real Club de Tenis Betis hosted the final of the Sevilla Tennis Cup, which saw Argentinian Facundo Díaz Acosta face Serbian Dusan Lajovic. The South American tennis player claimed the title after winning 2-0 in a match that determined the champion of the 63rd edition of the tournament.
Seville's mayor, José Luis Sanz, was responsible for presenting the cup to the winner in a ceremony held at the end of the match. The mayor congratulated both finalists and highlighted the level of competition, which is part of the ATP Challenger 125 category.
"The Sevilla Cup, ATP Challenger 125, after more than six decades of competition, has established itself as an essential event in Spanish tennis and places Seville on the world tennis stage," Sanz stated.
The mayor also had words of praise for the organisers and the host club. According to his statements, the tournament has enjoyed "excellent organisation" that has allowed it to "continue to grow" and attract "the best tennis players of the moment." He also thanked the support of the Andalusian Tennis Federation, the public, and all participating players.
In his speech, Sanz recalled that the name of Facundo Díaz Acosta is now linked to Seville alongside other great tennis players who have competed in this tournament throughout its history, such as Manuel Orantes, Manolo Santana, Álex Corretja, Albert Costa, Carlos Moyá, Jim Courier, Rafael Nadal, Carlos Alcaraz, and Roberto Caballés, who has won the last three editions.
The Sevilla Tennis Cup is played on clay courts at the Real Club de Tenis Betis. The mayor emphasised that the city is accustomed to hosting major sporting events and that this tournament has become a showcase for discovering new talents.
With this victory, Díaz Acosta adds his name to the list of champions of a tournament that has over six decades of history and brings together top-level tennis players in Seville each year.
