The Dos Hermanas City Council is taking advantage of the summer months to carry out new actions from the Municipal Accessibility Plan in Plaza Menéndez y Pelayo and Santa María Magdalena street, aiming to reduce disruptions to traffic and residents.
The Dos Hermanas City Council has launched new actions during the summer months as part of the Municipal Accessibility Plan at two high-traffic locations: Plaza Menéndez y Pelayo and Santa María Magdalena street. The choice of these dates is intended to minimise the impact on traffic and the public, according to the council.
These works add to those already carried out in numerous neighbourhoods and areas of the municipality, such as Virgen de Valme, Montequinto, El Amparo, Fuente del Rey, El Palancar, La Pólvora, Centro, Garabato, Doctor Fleming, Costa del Sol, Las Infantas, Condequinto, Venta Bermeja, El Rocío, Las Portadas, Isaac Peral, Carlos I, Montecillos, Chaparral, Arco Norte, Ciudad Blanca, La Redondilla, Ibarburu, Parque Giralda, San Hilario and Cantely, as well as the surroundings of several educational centres, health centres and commercial areas.
Interventions have also taken place on the Avenues of Spain, Andalucía, Sevilla, Reyes Católicos and 4 de Diciembre.
Among the tasks being carried out are the construction or renovation of curb cuts on sidewalks for people with reduced mobility, vehicle access ramps, the replacement of sidewalk paving due to deficiencies, the construction or renovation of curbs for confinement or drainage, the repair and conditioning of tree pits, the adaptation of ramp and stair pavements, as well as the execution of drainage systems and the relocation of streetlights and conduits.
Before executing these actions, municipal staff conducted a diagnostic assessment to gather information and design the interventions. However, the City Council has opened a channel for citizens to submit their proposals for improving accessibility and eliminating architectural barriers in public spaces. Suggestions can be submitted through general applications or by sending an email to accesibilidad@doshermanas.es.
Accessibility in urban space is framed within the Local Urban Agenda Action Plan and is part of Strategic Objective 2 of the Urban Agenda Spain, which aims to prevent urban sprawl and revitalise the existing city.
