The association Lebrija Diversidad organised a talk with activist Manolita Chen, which brought together locals and municipal and provincial representatives in the town.
The journey of Manolita Chen arrived this Wednesday in Lebrija during a talk organised by the association Lebrija Diversidad. The meeting, held on September 23, gathered citizens around the personal experience and activism of one of the leading figures in the defence of LGTBIQ+ rights in Spain.
Municipal delegates Paula García and Cristina Fernández, along with the Equality Deputy of the Seville Provincial Council, the local María Encarnación Fuentes, attended the event. Attendees had the opportunity to hear Chen's testimony firsthand and share a space for dialogue about her life journey.
This activity is part of the annual programme of Lebrija Diversidad, which throughout the year promotes various initiatives to raise awareness of diversity, encourage participation, and advocate for the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community. This programme is funded by the Concertation area of the Seville Provincial Council.
Chen's presence in Lebrija brought the memory and activism of a figure linked to the defence of equality and freedoms closer to the municipality. Her testimony served to give a face to a journey that has accompanied the visibility of LGTBIQ+ people over the last few decades.
The event attracted a notable number of locals, which, according to the organisation, confirms public support for the proposals of Lebrija Diversidad. The association continues its calendar of activities with the aim of generating spaces for meeting, reflection, and recognition of diversity in the town.
“The response from the people shows that Lebrija wants to continue building a more tolerant society,” the organisation stated.
