The Diputación de Sevilla has announced the sixth edition of the 'Manuel Chaves Nogales' International Journalism Award, endowed with €6,000 for each of the four categories: press, radio, audiovisual and photography.
The deadline for submitting works starts this Thursday, July 23, and will extend until September 30, as published in the Official Bulletin of the Province. The awards, now in their sixth edition, aim to recognise journalistic work that embodies the values of honesty and independence, as the Diputación de Sevilla has reminded.
The rules state that journalists and photojournalists of any nationality may apply, with one entry per category. The works must be original or series on the same theme and cannot have been awarded in other competitions previously.
In the categories of written press (paper or digital), radio and audiovisual, information, articles, chronicles, reports, special thematic coverage or documentaries are accepted. In photography, a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve images, published or unpublished, are required, provided they meet the eligibility period.
The publication period for the works spans from June 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026. Applications must be submitted electronically through the Single Electronic Register of the Diputación de Sevilla's Electronic Headquarters.
The award, named after the illustrious Sevillian journalist Manuel Chaves Nogales, aims to highlight street journalism, which consists of “seeing, hearing and telling people what matters to people,” in the words of the organisation. Chaves Nogales' own quote, “to walk and tell is my profession,” encapsulates the spirit of the award.
The Diputación de Sevilla emphasises that the works must reflect everyday reality and the essence of the journalism practiced by the Sevillian author. The quality, originality, and ethical commitment of the proposals will be especially valued.
With this initiative, the provincial institution continues its commitment to promoting independent and quality journalism, in a context where the profession faces numerous challenges. The award has established itself as a reference in the international journalistic field, attracting entries from various countries.
