The 27th edition of Nights in the Gardens of the Royal Alcázar of Seville faces its final week with five concerts from September 15 to 19. The closing, by Andreas Prittwitz and Ramiro Morales, commemorates the 500 years since the wedding of Carlos V and Isabel of Portugal and the 400 years since the death of John Dowland.
The 27th edition of Nights in the Gardens of the Royal Alcázar of Seville is approaching its last five events. They will take place from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 September, featuring a programme that blends soul, Middle Eastern music, jazz, and dances from around the world. Tickets cost 7 euros and are available on the official website of the event.
The singer and songwriter Antonia Ferrà opens the week on Tuesday 15 September with “Sunshine”, a show based on her debut album. Soul, gospel, R&B, and pop intersect in thirteen compositions that speak of overcoming challenges, self-love, and the search for new horizons. The quintet format maintains the rich sound of the album and enhances the power of the live performance. Since its premiere in 2024, the project has performed at festivals and venues in Andalusia and the Balearic Islands.
On Wednesday 16 September, Yaleili presents “A Night Between al-Andalus and the Middle East”. The repertoire includes traditional Arab songs, Andalusian melodies, and flamenco styles, using voice, flamenco guitar, oud, percussion, and bouzouki as tools for dialogue between the two shores of the Mediterranean. The group consists of Syrian singer Ebla Sadek, guitarist and oud player Dennis Duffin, and multi-instrumentalist Chiqui García, with previous performances at festivals and cultural spaces in Spain and Portugal.
On Thursday 17 September, saxophonist and flautist Bernardo Parrilla and pianist Daahoud Salim present “Jazz and Resistance: A Story of Coltrane and Miles”. The concert celebrates the centenaries of the births of John Coltrane and Miles Davis and reviews their careers, from bebop to the transformations they brought to the genre's language. Both musicians approach the legacy through improvisation, listening, and interpretative freedom.
On Friday 18 September, Manu Brazo and Rosa Gavare perform “Dances of the World”. Saxophone and cello, an unusual combination, traverse music from Europe and America, from baroque tradition to tango, Scandinavian folklore, and Latin American music. The programme includes works by Astor Piazzolla and Enrique Granados, among other composers. The two performers were musically trained in Seville.
The closing performance is by Andreas Prittwitz and Ramiro Morales on Saturday 19 September, with “Music in the Times of Carlos V and Isabel I: From Guerrero to Dowland”. The programme links the two anniversaries of this edition: the 500 years since the wedding of Carlos V and Isabel of Portugal and the 400 years since the death of John Dowland. The journey begins in the European courts of the 16th century and then travels to the England of Isabel I. Prittwitz and Morales combine flutes, clarinet, and saxophones with plucked strings in a personal interpretation of this repertoire.
