Seville City Council completes the comprehensive renovation of the Plantinar school, with new bathrooms, a refurbished playground, and a sports court. This action is part of a plan exceeding 25 million.
Seville City Council has announced the completion of the modernisation works at CEIP Aníbal González, located in the Plantinar neighbourhood, an initiative that involved an investment of 500,000 euros. The mayor, José Luis Sanz, visited the centre to see the results of the work that has completely transformed the facilities.
The most notable intervention has been the comprehensive renovation of the twelve toilet modules in the school, which dated back to 1967 and were among the oldest in the city's public schools. All plumbing, electricity, and sanitation have been replaced, the sanitary fixtures have been renewed, and new cubicles with phenolic panels have been installed, improving the distribution of spaces.
The mayor emphasised that this action highlights "the decades of neglect that these centres have suffered and that, since our arrival in municipal government, have been an absolute priority." In addition to the bathrooms, the project included the renovation of the infant playground, a long-standing demand from the educational community.
"This action has addressed a historical demand from the centre and sought to improve the area of the infant playground, which had old and obsolete facilities that have been replaced with completely renewed and safe ones," Sanz stated.
In that space, a rubber pavement has been installed, old playground equipment has been removed, irrigation has been provided for the green areas, the wall separating the playground from the sports areas has been repaired and painted, and a reading area for students has been created. Additionally, there is a new sports court, already in use, which involved an additional investment of 84,134 euros.
The mayor recalled that these works are part of an investment of 1.4 million euros already executed in educational centres across all districts of the city. The slats of the dining room windows have also been replaced, an action carried out in April 2024 to prevent intrusions from the outside, and the classroom floors have been renewed with high-quality materials.
A shock plan for public schools
The work at Aníbal González is part of the Public Schools Renovation Plan of Seville, which the City Council is currently implementing with several ongoing projects. According to data provided by the Council, there are nearly 5.8 million euros in works underway, 9.5 million in the drafting phase, about 9.8 million in completed actions, and more than 950,000 euros in projects under processing.
In total, the municipal government estimates that more than 25 million euros have been invested and committed over these three years to renew the public schools of Seville. Regarding the renovation of bathrooms, Sanz highlighted that it is one of the most ambitious measures being undertaken, mentioning centres such as Hermanos Machado, Buenavista, Zurbarán, Adriano, Mariana de Pineda, Calvo Sotelo, Pablo VI, or San Pablo, which already have or will have new sanitary facilities.
With these actions, the City Council responds to the demands of educational communities and improves the conditions of public centres in the city. The works at CEIP Aníbal González are now finished, and students are enjoying renewed and safe facilities.
