The Flamenco Ballet of Andalusia presents 'Flamenco Patrimonio' on September 2 at the Calixto Sánchez Municipal Theatre in Mairena del Alcor, as part of the 65th Antonio Mairena Festival.
The Calixto Sánchez Municipal Theatre in Mairena del Alcor will host a performance by the Flamenco Ballet of Andalusia on September 2 at 21:30, featuring their show 'Flamenco Patrimonio'. This event is part of the programming for the 65th Antonio Mairena Festival, one of the oldest flamenco competitions in Andalusia.
A tribute to flamenco as a World Heritage
The work, premiered on April 17 at the Central Theatre in Seville, commemorates the 15th anniversary of flamenco's inclusion in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. According to the director of the Ballet, Patricia Guerrero, the show "is, in essence, an emotional and creative journey through the blending and roots of an art that remains alive in its young figures."
The scenic proposal, of a choral nature, has been designed by the Granada choreographer along with the dancers of the company. It takes as its starting point the gala of the same name held at the Granada Biennial in September 2025. The musical repertoire, based on compositions by Arturo Pavón, traverses styles such as verdiales, peteneras, and romances.
The show includes a tribute to Granada, evoking the essence of the Albaicín and Sacromonte, and reinterprets the legacy of Enrique Morente. It also acknowledges the figure of Mario Maya, founder of the Flamenco Ballet of Andalusia three decades ago. "This brilliant generation of artists takes the creative reins in a work that asserts the Andalusian institutional company as an inexhaustible source of talent," Guerrero adds.
Evening programme
The audience in Mairena del Alcor will be able to enjoy a journey through nine pieces: Noche de Triana, Caña, Caminos malagueños, Fe, te habito, Corridos y romances, Aljibe, Sacromonte, Maestro, and Eterno. The performance promises a fusion of tradition and avant-garde, with a staging that champions young talent.
The Antonio Mairena Cante Jondo Festival, now in its 65th edition, is an unmissable event for flamenco lovers in the Los Alcores region. The performance by the Flamenco Ballet of Andalusia is shaping up to be one of the highlights of its summer programme.
Tickets and recommendations
Tickets for the show are available at the theatre box office and through the online sales channels of the Mairena del Alcor Town Hall. It is recommended to purchase them in advance, given the excitement generated by the presence of the Andalusian institutional company. The Calixto Sánchez Municipal Theatre, with a capacity of around 400 people, is the usual venue for major cultural events in the locality.
For the residents of Mairena del Alcor and nearby towns such as El Viso del Alcor or Carmona, this event represents a unique opportunity to see one of the most prestigious dance companies in Andalusia live without leaving the region. The festival, which takes place from late August, includes other activities such as lectures, exhibitions, and singing recitals.
