The Town Hall of Mairena del Alcor has presented the ‘Summer=Culture’ programme with 50 free activities of music, theatre, circus, and cinema during July and August.
The Sevillian municipality of Mairena del Alcor will host a free cultural programme during July and August, which includes classical music in the castle gardens, theatre in the neighborhoods, family circus, and nine nights of outdoor cinema. The initiative, called ‘Summer=Culture’, was presented by the Councillor for Culture, Inmaculada Galocha, who highlighted that the agenda has been designed “with a lot of love” and has the collaboration of various administrations.
The cycle will kick off on July 2 with ‘Nights in the Castle Gardens’, which is celebrating its third edition at the Bonsor House Museum. At 22:00, the public will be able to enjoy five classical music concerts: a harpsichord concert, a saxophone quartet, lyrical recitals, and classical guitar. The combination of historical heritage and live music aims to bring this genre closer to all audiences in a privileged setting.
In August, culture will go out to the neighborhoods with the programme ‘Culture on the Streets’. Activities will start at 21:30 and will include theatre, music, and circus in public spaces. The company MalasombrA will perform the play ‘Tuyo es...’ on Antonio Gavira Avenue, while the Plaza del Club Deportivo La Checa will host a circus show by Jester Del and Manolo Carambola. The Ciudad de Bayamo Park will be the stage for a concert by the Youth Music Band, and the cycle will close at the Castle with the company El Secreto.
The Summer Cinema returns to the Patio de la Academia with nine films for the whole family: five in July (22:00) and four in August (21:30). The summer programme will conclude on August 28 with the traditional Flamenkedada, which will serve as a prelude to the flamenco festival scheduled from September 1 to 5.
Last year, the ‘Summer=Culture’ initiative attracted over 3,000 attendees, according to municipal data. For this edition, the Town Hall expects to exceed that figure thanks to the variety of proposals and the free nature of all activities. “We want summer nights to be a meeting point for locals and visitors,” Galocha emphasised.
The activities will take place in various locations throughout the municipality, such as the castle gardens, Ciudad de Bayamo Park, and the Patio de la Academia. No prior reservation is necessary, although arriving early is recommended to ensure capacity. The entire programme can be consulted on the Mairena del Alcor Town Hall website.
