Mairena del Alcor City Council has replaced the first four spouts of the Alconchel Fountain and will complete the set with three more in the coming days. This intervention comes after vandals stole the old spouts.
The work to restore the original appearance of the Alconchel Fountain in Mairena del Alcor is progressing in phases. Four spouts have already been installed, and the remaining three will be installed in the coming days once their restoration is complete. This has been confirmed by the Councillor for Services, José Romero.
The action responds to the vandalism suffered by the fountain, where the old spouts were stolen. According to the councillor, collaboration between the Municipal Police and security cameras allowed the identification of the perpetrator and the recovery of three of the original spouts.
“Thanks to the security cameras and the quick action of the Municipal Police, we were able to identify the responsible party and recover three of the original spouts. These have been restored, cleaned, and refurbished. Additionally, four new spouts have been manufactured to complete the seven jets that make up the fountain. As a novelty, the central spout has been designed to be slightly larger to stand out in the structure.”
In addition to the replacement, municipal plumbers and blacksmiths have developed a new technical system that allows for the individual cutting of the water supply in case of a malfunction and makes it difficult for further theft or vandalism attempts.
The investment in materials exceeds 900 euros, to which the cost of labour must be added. Romero has publicly thanked the work of the plumbing, blacksmithing, and technical staff, and has called for civic responsibility from the public to preserve public heritage.
With this intervention, the set of seven jets will be complete in the coming days. The residents of Mairena del Alcor will be able to see the final result once the workers finish installing the last restored spouts.
