The Velá de las Almenas, the first velá of the summer in Tomares, begins this Friday at 21:00 on Pepe Marchena street. The weekend will be filled with activities organized by the General Community of the Almenas and the Town Hall.
The Almenas neighbourhood of Tomares dresses up to welcome summer with its traditional velá, which kicks off this Friday night. The event, which will last throughout the weekend, promises to liven up the streets with music, games, and gastronomic offerings for locals and visitors alike.
A programme designed for everyone
The velá will start at 21:00 on Pepe Marchena street, where booths and attractions will be set up. The Town Hall of Tomares, in collaboration with the General Community of the Almenas, has prepared a varied programme that includes musical performances, contests, and children's activities. Attendees will be able to enjoy live performances from local groups and DJs, as well as traditional games for the little ones.
According to municipal sources, the aim is to "recover the spirit of neighbourly coexistence that characterizes these velás." The organization expects a high turnout, especially during the nights of Friday and Saturday, when the main events of the programme are concentrated.
Pavías of hake and cod in the Jardines del Conde
In parallel, the Sacramental Brotherhood of Tomares continues its popular Pavías of hake and cod in the Jardines del Conde. This gastronomic event, which began last week, takes place every Friday and Saturday in July and August, except for Saturday, July 25, when it coincides with the Flamenco Festival of Tomares.
Attendees can taste freshly made pavías, homemade tapas, montaditos, and skewers at affordable prices. "It’s an opportunity to enjoy traditional cuisine in a unique setting," highlights the brotherhood. The initiative has been well received by locals, who see these evenings as a way to socialise and support local entities.
Buses to Punta Umbría beach
The Town Hall of Tomares has also launched a bus service to Punta Umbría beach, an initiative that is repeated every summer and enjoys great popularity. Buses leave every Thursday at 9:00 from the Camarón de la Isla area, returning in the afternoon.
The service is exclusively for residents of the municipality, who can purchase tickets at reduced prices. Additionally, there are special discounts for retirees, pensioners, and large families. "It’s a way to facilitate access to the beach for those who need it most," municipal sources state. Interested parties can find out more at the Town Hall or on the municipal website.
With these proposals, Tomares becomes a hive of activity during the summer, combining tradition, gastronomy, and leisure for all audiences. The Velá de las Almenas, the pavías, and the beach service are just the appetizer for a summer that promises to leave no one indifferent.
