A motorcyclist was injured this Friday in a side-impact collision with a car at a roundabout in Castilleja de la Cuesta. The Local Police are investigating the causes of the incident, which occurred during a heatwave.
A motorcyclist in his 30s was injured this Friday, July 3, in a side-impact collision with a car at a roundabout in Castilleja de la Cuesta, according to the Local Police of the municipality. The accident occurred around 14:30 at the roundabout of the A-8076, near the PISA industrial estate, one of the busiest roads in Aljarafe.
The injured person was immediately evacuated to the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Aljarafe, in Bormujos, where he was admitted with multiple injuries of varying severity. Health sources have indicated that, although his condition is serious, his life is not in danger. The car involved, a Seat León, sustained damage to the front and left side.
Ongoing investigation and public cooperation
The Local Police of Castilleja de la Cuesta have opened an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident. Officers are working under the hypothesis that possible sun glare or excessive speed may have caused the collision, although other causes are not ruled out. The driver of the car, a 45-year-old resident of Tomares, tested negative for alcohol and drugs.
The police force has thanked the cooperation of other drivers who stopped to assist the motorcyclist before the emergency services arrived. "The quick intervention of the witnesses was key to stabilising the injured until the medical staff arrived," highlighted a spokesperson for the Local Police. The high temperatures, which exceeded 40 degrees in the area, complicated the initial care.
A black spot in Aljarafe
The roundabout where the accident occurred is known by the residents of Castilleja de la Cuesta as a problematic point. According to data from the City Council, at least five accidents with injuries have been recorded in the same place over the last two years, mostly between cars and motorcycles. "It’s a very dangerous roundabout, especially at noon when the sun is directly in front," explained a local resident yesterday.
The accident has reopened the debate on road safety in the crossings of Aljarafe. The residents' association of Castilleja de la Cuesta has requested the City Council to install educational speed cameras and improve signage at the roundabout. "We cannot wait for a fatal victim to take action," stated its president.
Advice for navigating roundabouts
The Local Police have taken advantage of the incident to remind the importance of exercising caution at roundabouts, especially during hours of high solar radiation. "Reducing speed, signalling turns in advance, and maintaining a safe distance are basic measures that can prevent many accidents," indicated an officer. They also recommend that motorcyclists wear reflective gear and full-face helmets to minimise injuries.
The injured person remains under observation, and a more detailed medical report is expected in the coming hours. Meanwhile, the investigation continues to determine the responsibilities for the incident. The residents of Castilleja de la Cuesta, accustomed to traffic jams and the dangers of the A-8076, hope that this new accident will lead to measures that make a road used daily by thousands of vehicles safer.
