The Civil Guard is investigating the assault on a vehicle on the A-92 near Mairena del Alcor. Two cars blocked the car and several hooded men stole items under threats.

The Civil Guard has launched an investigation to clarify the armed robbery that occurred on the A-92 road, at the entrance to Mairena del Alcor. The incident, which was recorded by witnesses and has gone viral on social media, shows several individuals with covered faces intercepting a vehicle in broad daylight.

Sources from the armed institute confirmed to this newspaper that investigations have already begun to determine the exact circumstances of the robbery. "An investigation has been initiated to clarify the exact moment of the incident," they stated, although they warned that it is still unclear whether the jurisdiction belongs to the Civil Guard or the National Police, as it is unknown whether the events occurred within municipal boundaries or on an interurban road.

The images shared by the account Sevillaenfurecida show how two cars block a third vehicle, positioning one in front and another behind to prevent its escape. Immediately afterwards, at least two hooded men get out of the cars: while one keeps watch, the other approaches the immobilised vehicle and steals several items from inside. The sequence, which is highly violent, has generated enormous repercussions due to occurring on one of the main access roads to Seville.

The robbery, which lasted only a few minutes, not only endangered the occupants of the assaulted car but also other drivers on the motorway. During the assault, no other vehicles are seen passing by, suggesting that the criminals chose a time of lower traffic to act. After committing the robbery, the assailants returned to their cars and fled the scene, leaving the assaulted vehicle with a completely shattered window.

The consulted sources did not want to reveal whether there are prior reports of the incident so as not to interfere with the investigation. "We cannot disclose that information," they indicated. Such types of road robberies are uncommon in the area, although several violent robberies have been recorded in the metropolitan area of Seville in recent months. In January of this year, a bank in Sevilla Este was robbed at knife point, and the branch manager managed to catch the thief.

The Civil Guard urges anyone who witnessed the events or has information to contact the nearest station. Meanwhile, investigations continue to identify those responsible and determine if they belong to an organised group dedicated to this type of robbery.
